Roof coating advice for hot, high UV regions, from surface preparation to recoat timing.
Start with the roof, not the tin
A coating can only perform as well as the surface under it. Sweep the roof, wash off chalk and lichen, treat rust spots and let everything dry completely. Most roof coating failures we are called to inspect are preparation failures.
Look for UV stability, not just colour
Colour sells the tin. UV stability keeps that colour on the roof. AfriBase Roof is formulated for high exposure conditions, which is what a Polokwane summer delivers for months at a time.
Plan the recoat before you need it
Write down the date you painted and the product you used. Inspect the roof once a year after the rains. Small touch ups on flashing and ridges cost very little compared to stripping a failed system.
Application matters
Brush, roller or spray all work, but the film thickness has to be right. Two full coats beat three thin ones. If you are spraying, keep a wet edge and do not over thin.
