Our Story
AfriBase Paints (Pty) Ltd was founded in 2018 in Polokwane, Limpopo, after the acquisition of a well researched range of paint formulations.
Those formulations took more than ten years to develop. The goal was never a cheap tin or a luxury tin. It was the right balance of environmental responsibility, durability, quality and price for the African market.
The company trades as AfriBase Paints under Butao Technical Services and General Projects, registration 2018/250550/07, and works across manufacturing, distribution, retail and application.

Quality and Sustainability
Environmental care is written into the formulations, the packaging and the way we move product.
- Extremely low or no VOC raw materials
- No lead, mercury, cadmium or hexavalent chromium
- Natural pigments for product colouration
- No specified NPEs, APEs, formaldehyde donors or dichlorobenzene
- Recycled packaging materials where possible
- Local raw material sourcing and biofuel supported transport
- Non odorous products with good hiding power and UV stability
Research and Development
Innovation is not a slogan here. It is the reason the company exists in its current form.
Product research
Our formulations were developed through more than a decade of laboratory and field work before 2018. That base lets us keep improving coverage, adhesion and weather resistance without giving up affordability.
Application research
We have also developed our own painting styles and techniques, focused on sustainability, efficiency, workmanship, affordability and customer experience. The techniques are reviewed as our teams learn on site.

Our painting division has 10 trained painting specialists and 10 junior team members, predominantly women, guided by internal standards and the Occupational Health and Safety Act, No. 85 of 1993.
